The Aztec calendar
Actually, there are two Aztec calendars: the
civil Aztec calendar and the ritual calendar known
as the tonalpohually.
the Aztec civil calendar is based on the sun.
The year in this calendar consists of 18 months
with 20 days. Each month is divided into four
weeks which have five days. In order to have a
365 day year, five "empty days" were
added.
the Aztec ritual calendar consists of 260 days,
divided into 20 13 day weeks. This Aztec calendar
was part of the sacred book of days, which was
used by the priest to predict good and bad days
and cast horoscopes. |
